IE7 Beta 2 - Non Preview
After giving the Beta 2 Preview of Internet Explorer 7 a spin on one of my laptops, Microsoft released the final version of Beta 2 a couple of days ago, actually without much fanfare or other events, the release went unnoticed for most people I think. This package could not be upgraded so I had to install IE7Beta2 Preview first, fearing a little bit that all my configured RSS feeds would vanish one after the other but this was not necessary as after the installation of the final Beta 2 everything was there just where I left it.
At first glance the entire application has the same look and feel but after looking a bit deeper there are some differences to be found, and they’re quite positive and/or handy to use.
- Next to the Quick Tabs overview there is a little dropdown box that will list you the opened tabs, allowing you to select one from that list, instead of using the tabs.
- In the options/general tab I’ve discovered the option “Tabs†that lets you specify how tabs should behave. Most importantly you can decide if popups open in a new tab or in a new window, one of my quirks from the Beta2 Preview. Those that really want can even switch the tabbed browsing off.
- CSS compatibility has improved overall with a bit better result in rendering of pages that did not really work in the preview release. Yes there is still a lot of work to do but yes there is some improvement already.
Glad to see that there is some active advancement in the addition of features and the implementation of the rendering/parsing engine. The next release will be RC1 probably, for a timeframe you might want to check the Microsoft site :-)
